Vinyl windows are a popular choice for many. However, when subjected to extreme weather condition, they tend to discolor over a course of time. Are your vinyl windows discolored? Do you want to paint them?
Paint or re-install:
Before going forward with painting, see if the windows are old enough to be replaced. If your vinyl windows have been around for many years then probably it is better to reinstall new ones than covering up the problem. Intex Windows and Doors are renowned for installation of vinyl windows in San Marino. They are the best in the area.
They offer vinyl windows in a large array of colors and styles. Choose one which goes well with the style of your room. If your window is fairly new, then you may want to paint it rather than replace it.
Initial precautions:
Check ahead with the windows manufacturer if painting it would void the warranty which may not be worth it. Some manufacturers would ask you to send a paint chip. They will check and let you know if the paint is appropriate. It is important to find vinyl-safe paint and primer. Avoid dark colors if the window color is white. If so, go with neutral shades like beige and grey.
Painting vinyl windows:
- Clean the windows: Immerse a sponge in diluted dish soap and clean the dirt on the window frames. Rinse the soap away and let the windows dry.
- Sand the windows: Use 220 or 240 grit sandpaper to rough up the surface and wipe away traces of dust.
- Cover using painter’s tape: Using a painter’s tape and plastic sheeting cover the walls and window frame.
- Apply primer: Spray a thin layer of vinyl-safe primer and let it dry.
- Paint: Start applying the paint to the dried window. Two coats are ideal.
Let it dry and clean up all the mess. Remember to clean and lubricate the windows whenever necessary. Regular maintenance will prolong the longevity of vinyl windows.
